What IS a home-centered family?

That is a great question and one that didn’t really strike me until about 5 months ago when I heard an announcement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints regarding their new curriculum and Sunday time table.

They talked of a balance between home-centered and gospel-centered learning. That really struck my heart. As I pondered on that thought- that picture- in my heart and mind, I really began to understand what it meant to me.

Home-centered.
Home.
So much of life takes place in the home. We have families, we create a space full of comfort and support, we strive to make it a place where we WANT to be. It becomes a safe haven. A refuge.

I am a homebody by nature. Maybe that is why the term struck such a chord with me. I enjoy being home with my children and my wife. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows, don’t get me wrong, but it is home. And I never feel more at ease, more full of life than when I am home.

So What? Why Should I Care About Home-Centered?

So, why should you care if your family is home-centered? Great question. Think about your family. What are your strengths? What are the areas of weakness? Where are you just a plain, hot mess?

Allisha and I have spent years working on cleaning up the “hot mess” portion of our lives and we feel pretty successful in what we have done. (Don’t worry, we still have plenty to work on!) What we learned during all of our challenges and struggles is that our family- our home- was the key to success. When things are right at home, everything else seems to fall into place. Work seems less stressful, community events become more enjoyable, and the kids seem happier.

We want YOU to have a home that is centered on family. Where the family comes first. This isn’t easy- so many things demand your time and attention! You will be amazed at the change it will create in your daily lives if you start putting family first. And THAT my friends, is why we want to share our learning with you. Help you skip past all the ways that DON’T work and get right down to business with the successes!
